Round trip to the black forest

A little something for the Easy-Bossa-Party. Unfortunately
i sold my original Center copy. Fortunately it went to Japan
and is probably well looked after. Cheers, Basso

Please buy the recent Sonorama Reissue. It features some
incredible Non-LP tracks!

Sincerely P.T.

As promised and then requested here's one of my favourite
german Jazz lps - Peter Trunk's "Sincerely P.T." released on
the tiny Aamok sublabel of Spiegelei Records in 1973.
For information about Mr. Trunk please ask Wikipedia,
they know him there. I knew his name from some
Doldinger LPs and the beautiful "Ultra Native" by Bora Rokovic
on MPS. When i realized that "Soft hands had the rain" from
Rokovic's album is also featured on this lp here i was willing
to pay whatever they wanted. Took me some time to find it
though.

Rest in peace, Peter Trunk and thank you very much!!!!

I don't see why you should bring up name like random rap for this kind of dope stuff

The title track is so darn wack that i couldn't even use the photo of side a. It's called "Everything I own" and yes, it's a cover version and these guys dare to sing!! The raps on this "close to completely silly" schmoov groover definitely stand in tradition of LL Cool J's "I need love". Fortunately the other tracks rock like hell. James Brown samples, some dope cuts and a superb rapper that really goes for gold. Guess what song was used for "Goodfoot"? My favourite is "Dance to Excalibur". Rapper X-Calibur goes berzerk over Herman Kelly's "Dance to the drummers beat" without a stop!!

Released on EMF reocrds in 1988

Blow that trombone, Jigga

Sorry for that stupid title!
This is Jiggs (Oliver Haydn) Whigham's second album under his own name.
The first one is "Values" on the infamous MPS label from the black forest and
is really hard to get nowadays. Besides from that album he appeared on a bunch
of great MPS records like most of Peter Herbolzheimers Rhythm Combination & Brass joints or on Charly Antolini's funky "Soul Beat" or on Peter Trunk's massive "Sincerely P.T." on the superrare Aamok lable ( I will probably post that in few weeks time). I like this one more than his first, because it's a great mix of up and down, slow and fast, jazzy and funky, latin & even a feel of boogaloo.

Produced and arranged by Jiggs Whigham
Jiggs Whigham - trombone, percussion
Ferdinand Povel - saxes, flutes
Rob Franken - piano, fender rhodes
Nils Henning Orsted Pedersen - bass
Grady Tate -drums

Recorded in Cologne , January 24th 1976.

Herzlichst, Inge

Vielen dank, liebe Inge. Thanks a lot dear Inge for this
lovely EP from 1960 that holds one of my favourite vocal
jazz tracks ever. "There will never be another you"
really gets me going. The way she streches the words
reminds me of the good old Mark Murphy.
Yeah right, this might be something for the Jazz lovers around the globe.
Check out "Lover Man" and you know why they've printed
"Europe's Best Jazz Singer" on the front cover.
I hope i don't sound like I want to sell it....

Und ich hör zu

Heidelinde Weis is actually an austrian actress. She recorded this LP
with the help of some great guys like Sigfried Schwab, Fatty George,
Olaf Kübler,
Bernie Prock, Dave King, Gary Todd, Todd Canedy
and Kristian Schultze (Xynn, Snowball, and so many more) who also produced this LP.

Very listenable from the first note to the last. This actress really can sing.
Tender bossa tunes beside unobtrusive funky tracks.

Wonderful music and i mean it!!!

Highly recommend especially for german speaking folks, because of the
surprisingly fresh and ironic lyrics dealing with love and life and stuff.

Mountain folks

Notoco is the name of the group. "So what" is the english translation.
So this is something like a self titled lp. It contains progressive,
sometimes funky rock mixed with polish folk music from the mountains.
Sounds strange and it sometimes is, but definitely worth some listening.
I hope the liner notes on the back cover are readable, because they hold
some interesting information about the guys and their immense success
all over europe. Check out the incredible breaks on "saturday to sunday".

Is this a serious lp?

I like it funky

Mr. Fritz Gulda is in good humour. You see it & you hear it. Along with Hans Rettenbacher (Dave Pike Set) on bass and the infamous Klaus Weiss on drums Gulda kicks ass. The LP starts mellow with Blues for H.G. which is dedicated to the founder of the SABA / MPS label Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer. It tsay for a couple of tracks and then explodes with one of my favourite versions of "All Blues". The flipside starts with a 7 minute version of "Light my fire" and then cools down again. This is Jazz, my friends.

Tracks:

01. Blues For H.G. 05:50
02. I Only Have Eyes For You 05:00
03. What Is This Thing Called Love 05:00
04. All Blues 05:30

05. Light My Fire 07:20
08. Round Midnight 06:38
09. East Of The Sun 07:23

The tears of a clown

Wow - this guy's got equipment. And he's looking a bit funny, ha?
See what hapens when the mask is down - a nice & friendly guy.
This is not about discussing the shape of his nose, but lose a few words
about his music. It is a solo trip and a weird one.
Must have something to do with german humour which does exist -
just look at the cover! Friends of Luke Vibert's Nuggets will love this
rare beauty that sometimes sounds like the soundtrack to a C64 game.
My favourites are the mindbending "Galaxy Taxi" & the sexy "Dracula's Kuß".
Also recommended to fans of Klaus Schulze as there are also some mellow Berlin School tracks.

Auf wiedersehen, Basso

Tracks:

01. Solo Trip 03:11
02. Yeti 04:16
03. Galaxy Taxi 04:43
04. September

05. Dracula's Kuß 04:50
06. Jubel-Trubel 3:46
07. Minuetta 04:15
08. Ausklang 02:38

Produced by Achim "erst Grüne Reise und dann den Arsch an die Wand" Reichel.
1978 Strand Records (a sublabel of Teldec)

давайте танцевать!

I used an online translator for the title. It is an invitation to move the body to a rhythm. This rhythm is a disco beat with spacy synthesizers à la Quartz or Droids or Arpadys or any of that spatial french goodies. This LP was released in '82. They have at least one other out. I used to have that one maybe 10 years ago, but didn't like and gave it away. Was that a mistake?
I've seen it a few times on ebay, but the price was always far more than the 1 Deutsche Mark I've paid back then. Now I have this here and I'm quite confident with it. The title is "Music in the universe" and the back cover says that the "Programme is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Soviet astronautics".
Right on!

Tracks:

01. A Mysterious Galaxy 04:45
02. Laser Illuminations 04:11
03. A Silver Dream 03:32
04. Photofinish 04:43

05. The Sky's Back 05:17 (THIS IS THE D-BOMB)
06. The Saturn's Delight 03:47
07. Flight Over El Dorado 05:07

Janis Lusens - piano, Yamaha SK-50 D
Aivars Gudrais - guitar
Dzintars Sagens - guitar
Ivars Pijlka - bass guitar
Andris Reinis - percussion

Viva Mexico!

Great stripped trio-jazz from Mexico. Guitar, bass & drums.
That's it. The mood sometimes reminds me of Tommy Guerrero's
"Loose Grooves & Bastard Blues". But these tunes here are much more
experimental with funky breaks well hidden in complex structures.
No head nodding here.

Tracks:

01. Inocencia
02. El Jinete
03. La Danza Del Juego
04. El Extranjero
05. El Matador

06. La Broma
07. La Despedida
08. Correo Negro
09. Katherine
10. Dedicacion

Released on the mexican Orfeon Label Orfeon LP-12-1090

Chameleons are funny animals

These guys call themselves turtles but behave like chameleons -
not only musically (the pictures of the inner fold are included in the .zip file).
Big Time. I only knew that sort of tourism through the musical categories from Ween. The Lightning Seeds covered "You showed me" and the Beastie Boys sampled "I'm chief Kamanawamalea". Enough of them names, here's the songs:

01. The U.S. Teens featuring Raoul - The Battle Of The Bands (The Opening)
02. The Atomic Enchillada - The Last Thing I Remeber
03. Howie, Mark, Johny, Jim & Al - Elenore
04. Quad City Ramblers - Too Much Heartsick Feeling
05. The L.A. Burts '66 - Oh, Daddy!
06. The Fabulous Dawgs - Buzzsaw

07. The Cross Fires - Surfer Dan
08. Chief Kamanawanalea & his Royal Macadamian Nuts - I'm Chief Kama...
09. Nature's Children - You Showed Me
10. The Bigg Brothers - Food
11. Fats Mallard & The Bluegrass Fireball - Chicken Little Was Right
12. All of the above together - Earth Anthem (The Closing)

The Turtles:

Howard Kaylan - Fisrt chair vocalist
Mark Volman - Vocals, Special Effects
Al Nichol - Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals
Jim Pons - Bass Guitar, Vocals
Johnny Barbata - Percussion, Occasional Vocals

Produced by Chip Douglas, Arranged by The Turtles & Chip Douglas

Xynn - Dreams about reality (1980 Vertigo)

Most of the tracks of the LP are pretty spacy pop songs. If someone told me they were influenced by David Bowie, i'd nod. If i say "I think Jean-Benoît Dunckel was influenced by Xynn", what would you respond? Listen to "Space (Dreaming again)" and tell me,
how does it feel? HERE

Tracks:

01. Dreams About Reality 07:18
02. A Brand New Day 05:35
03. Struggle Of Life 05:03
04. Xynnthetic Lady 06:56

05. White Violence 04:20
06. C'est Comme Moi 04:18
07. Join The Party 04:57
08. Space / Dreaming Again 09:22

Petr Spaleny smokes Apollo pipes

Released in the early 70s probably this obscure LP holds some very special tracks. Mr. Spaleny's english is interesting. His voice is too. I'd bet he was announced as the czech Lee Hazlewood when he tingled through the bars behind the iron curtain. After having listened to it twice I was absolutely sure that this man might be at least a little humorous. Check his version of "Games people play" and try to listen to it all the way through. Be sure that it won't get any worse. Instead it's getting up in space or some other strange place. Just enter Mr. Spaleny's Apollo and fly off with the "Dalailama" to the "Blubbering Baby" and be sure to check if that "Pipe smoke is magic".

Tracks:

01. Dalailama 04:00
02. A Sleep Walking Fool 03:25
03. Pipe Smoke Is Magic 04:05
04. Sail With Me, Magdalena 02:00
05. The Mountain 03:55
06. Blubbering Baby 02:50

07. Games People Play 03:30
08. The Charms Of Joy 02:40
09. If I Were A Carpenter 03:40
10. I Am Very Grateful 03:40
11. Four Kinds Of Lonely 02:25
12. So Long, Good-bye 02:25

Personnel:

Petr Spaleny - vocal
Jan Spaleny - leader, baritone sax, alto sax, bass trombone, vocal, tone generator
Pavel Krejca - melophone, mandoline, vocal
Vladimir Bar - organ, piano, celesta, vocal
