Don't forget the sunglasses

Michael Bundt is a well known name among fans of obscure electronics. Here's his third solo album released in 1980 on Blubber Lips . It's a good bit more experimental than the predecessor, the lovely cosmic ether-pop record "Neon" - in fact even weirder than his first. Be prepared and grab your shades....

PS. maybe someone remembers the c64 game "Maniac Mansion"? I have always thought "The Tower Of Osc" would have been a nice addition to the soundtrack of that game. The tentacle song maybe? Chow chow!

Outta Sightsound

Following my soft spot for obscure private pressings here's yet another one. Cogwheel's Sightsound LP from an unknown (to me) year in the seventies?? If you check the details here  you'll find that there is a classical background  to most of the tracks, especially on the first side. Opening with lovely "Krautrock" including reversed drums and epic synths, it flows guitar-gently until the standout track "Latin Glasses" on side B wakes you up and calls for a dance or two (i wouldn't dare to say it'd move masses but a little "free dance" should be possible). This track will definitely appeal to the lovers of library music. Maybe the whole thing will as it's close to the sound of some german libraries of that period (i'm still guessing 1976-1978 until someone with expert knowledge enlightens my dull dungeon). If you're not into classical melodies and obscure stuff save yourself from those damn ads on the download sites and forget about it immediately..... if you are a sucker for old cheese, you might be very happy with it.
Cheers, Basso

Guest Mix: Seven Towers by Tolouse Low Trax

I'm superhappy to present Seven Towers - a mix by Tolouse Low Trax, solo recording artist, member of Kreidler and the man behind the world famous Salon Des Amateurs. If you know previous mixes like "Ocean" over at Lovefingers, "Savant Dance" at Kosmonautenschule or Mix at Vessel you know what to expect. If you don't - I give you 4 words: Deep, Intelligent, Obscure, Percussive and Experimental. And that's just the tip of his iceberg......... here you go ... diving.

Danke Detlef!

The Band Of The World - Equatorial Planes (2011)

On my quest for Silver Seeds and Poison Gold i crossed the Sauce Cosmos just recently.
What a ride! I've been attacked by Jungle Jacks trying to Lengthen
my Shadows with Real Mirrors. ALready saw myself in an Air Burial
but survived by riding away on Race Worms MkII. We were riding through Waves of DNA until finally we landed on Soap Island to rest and spin some of our favourite Discs.

The Band of the World is Josh Rachenbach and Lisa Pace. They are a cube field electronic band from Los Angeles. BIG thanks to Josh for sending the link to the equatorial plane trip!

Hermeneutic ambiance

I'm not going to loose many words on this. It's ambient, it's funny and experimental and a grower and I really really dig it. Nothing for the jazzheads probably, but if you're into obscure electronic music you'll have fun! Lots...
Cheers, Basso

Not doing a little blog-research before posting is stoopid.
This lovely LP has been posted before on Just Another Garden
and Synopsis Electronica. Both of these blogs are fantastic!

Musik Szene Saar

A rhyme on prächtiges Haar - Musik Szene Saar
Ambi & Arno sing "For You" (see tracklist below) and they're damn right. Now here's one for you. Hailing from from the small german federal state called Saarland, named after the river Saar, this compilation offers folky vibes, krautrock, teutonic elektronik, obscure funk and heavy rock!
Well worth a few spins .... get all the details here and snatch your link in the comments as soon as it appears there. Cheers!

Anna's Resumee: "Honesty has many faces - so have I"

The title of this post was translated from german and I got it from the info-sheet that came with the LP. It included a very straightforward letter from Mrs. Dobiey, adressed to the listener. I'll translate this another day ............ I hope you can read the text on the back cover, so lazy Basso doesn't have to type all the names like Kolonovits, Daansen & Pfannmüller that might make you curious about this here LP. It was recorded in Frankfurt about 1981 and is pretty interesting ; )
Please leave a comment if you know her personally! Also leave a comment if you don't!
cheers,
Basso

Make the music with your Maus

What about snakes and mice?
Wolfgang Maus plays bass on my favourite LP.
On top of that he produced this peace of heaven called
"Children of the Universe". Thanks a lot, Mr. Maus.
You're the "Master of the Universe"!

Wutt wutt

May I present Supersempfft's 2nd LP called "Metaluna" released on the private Wunderwerke Label in 1981. Other than the Roboterwerke and Futurist LPs released on CBS and RCA this album does not feature discoid pre techno tracks but reaggae, calypso and soca influenced electronics unlike anything else in the world of music. Performed by mastermind Dieter Kolb and the drummachine's inventor Franz Knüttel with the help of Franz Aumüller's creative genius (he's responsible for the incredible cover art).
This is freaked out shit!
Anyone interested in this?

Cheerz,
Basso

Mountain folks

Notoco is the name of the group. "So what" is the english translation.
So this is something like a self titled lp. It contains progressive,
sometimes funky rock mixed with polish folk music from the mountains.
Sounds strange and it sometimes is, but definitely worth some listening.
I hope the liner notes on the back cover are readable, because they hold
some interesting information about the guys and their immense success
all over europe. Check out the incredible breaks on "saturday to sunday".

Is this a serious lp?

Viva Mexico!

Great stripped trio-jazz from Mexico. Guitar, bass & drums.
That's it. The mood sometimes reminds me of Tommy Guerrero's
"Loose Grooves & Bastard Blues". But these tunes here are much more
experimental with funky breaks well hidden in complex structures.
No head nodding here.

Tracks:

01. Inocencia
02. El Jinete
03. La Danza Del Juego
04. El Extranjero
05. El Matador

06. La Broma
07. La Despedida
08. Correo Negro
09. Katherine
10. Dedicacion

Released on the mexican Orfeon Label Orfeon LP-12-1090

cheers,
Basso

Petr Spaleny smokes Apollo pipes

Released in the early 70s probably this obscure LP holds some very special tracks. Mr. Spaleny's english is interesting. His voice is too. I'd bet he was announced as the czech Lee Hazlewood when he tingled through the bars behind the iron curtain. After having listened to it twice I was absolutely sure that this man might be at least a little humorous. Check his version of "Games people play" and try to listen to it all the way through. Be sure that it won't get any worse. Instead it's getting up in space or some other strange place. Just enter Mr. Spaleny's Apollo and fly off with the "Dalailama" to the "Blubbering Baby" and be sure to check if that "Pipe smoke is magic".

Tracks:

01. Dalailama 04:00
02. A Sleep Walking Fool 03:25
03. Pipe Smoke Is Magic 04:05
04. Sail With Me, Magdalena 02:00
05. The Mountain 03:55
06. Blubbering Baby 02:50

07. Games People Play 03:30
08. The Charms Of Joy 02:40
09. If I Were A Carpenter 03:40
10. I Am Very Grateful 03:40
11. Four Kinds Of Lonely 02:25
12. So Long, Good-bye 02:25

Personnel:

Petr Spaleny - vocal
Jan Spaleny - leader, baritone sax, alto sax, bass trombone, vocal, tone generator
Pavel Krejca - melophone, mandoline, vocal
Vladimir Bar - organ, piano, celesta, vocal
Eduard Parma - bass guitar, bass clarinet, vocal
Josef Svehla - trumpet, flügelhorn, percussion
Miloslav Zizka - drums
