Fire of Dreams

Lauri Paisley - The Fire of Dreams

Another private release, this time on Methylunna Music. Lauri Paisley was a solo artist and as far as I can find, this is her only release. Lauri plays grand piano, 12-String guitar, electronic percussion, and "massive quantities of synthesizers". Some of the tracks have a classical feel while others, particularly on the b side, border on synthpop, The album was released in 1987.

Planetarium Tracks

Spell - Time Waves

Here is another set of tracks from 1979 performed primarily on synthesizers. There is also a grand piano in the mix which works to great effect on a couple tracks. This is literally space music. The work was commissioned for the Alexander Brest Planetarium in Jacksonville, Florida. The music was composed and performed by Jack Tamul, and Joe Deihl. This was a private release on Tsunami Records and apparently it was the only release on the label.

Twilight Cities

This recording is a redo of Torgue's first lp. The og was released in 1976 and in 1979 Henry Torgue decided to rerecord the the whole record in a different studio with a different producer. Another album, Compartiment Fuchsia, was released in 1979, as well. That one featured a trio setting where the others were solo recordings. Depending on the response to this one I may offer you that one, as well. Torgue is playing a variety of keyboards here and as usual the jams are intoxicating.

After Machines . . .

Moving on into 1979 with Robbley and friends. A new project called Moebius with pretty much the same sounds and music esthetic. Doug Lynner is back on synthesizers, Evan Caplan is once again on the drum throne and John Stubbs is playing violin. Alex Cima has moved on to connecting with the cosmos, replaced by Steve Roach sitting in on the third synth chair. All the compositions are by Robbley and Lynner with the exception of the first track written by The Doors. This one was released on Moonwind Records in the US and later on various other labels in a few European countries.

Expect the Unexpected . . .

Okay, here we have some fresh sounds from the 70s. I'm sure anyone keeping track of sounds in the blogosphere are aware of Lem's 'Machines'. Alex Cima and Bryce Robbley composed the music for this effort and added some fairly leftfield lyrics to some of the tracks. The record was a private release on Wavefront Records (the only release on this label). The machines were various electronic music making devices: synthesizers, vocoders, Syndrums, arpeggiators, etc. Cima went on to produce some grail vinyls and Robbley was caught up in a Moebius strip (more on that later). All this occurred in 1977 on the left coast of North America.

Synthétiseur Minimale

Le Prince Apatride is the fourth album in Henry-Skoff Torgue's catalog. Torgue isn't the best known of 20th Century minimalist composers, but he is one of my personal favorites. This is a mostly solo effort with Torgue producing most of the sounds on synthesizers and piano. One track, the longest, features Olivier Darcissac on clarinet. Le Prince Apatride was released in 1980 on Spalax Music.

Latter Lasry

Back to Amazonia was one of Teddy Lasry's last full lps. It was released in 1987 on the Sonimage label. The tracks are the usual eclectic mix of jazz, ambient and cosmic sounds. Lasry had help from Jean-Michel Hervé and Jean-Philippe Rykiel with the synthesizers. Guy Cassuto plays trumpet on a few tracks. Multi-instrumentalist Lasry takes care of the rest (reeds, keys, percussion, and strings).

The Cosmic Equation

More Lasry for synth fanciers. This one is from 1976 on the RCA Victor production media label. Lots of spacy noodling and some fine percussion on a few tracks. Lasry is credited with all instruments except bass which is covered by Jannick Top. Lasry's instrumental credits include reeds (flute, sax, and clarinet), mallets (marimba and percussion), keys (synths, clavinet, electric piano and piano). Some nice long tracks are included with this release, so it's one of my favorite Lasrys.

Cosmic Estonia

Hingus was the first solo release by Estonian keyboard wiz, Sven Grünberg. Synthesizers are the only musical component of this production. This rip is slightly stretched. Nothing wrong with longer jams.

Don't forget the sunglasses

Michael Bundt is a well known name among fans of obscure electronics. Here's his third solo album released in 1980 on Blubber Lips . It's a good bit more experimental than the predecessor, the lovely cosmic ether-pop record "Neon" - in fact even weirder than his first. Be prepared and grab your shades....

PS. maybe someone remembers the c64 game "Maniac Mansion"? I have always thought "The Tower Of Osc" would have been a nice addition to the soundtrack of that game. The tentacle song maybe? Chow chow!

Trans-Sentient Android Music

Here we have a soundtrack for an epic space fantasy. This is the story of Merak, a trans-sentient android (android with a soul) sent on a mission to the core of the universe to investigate an attack on the Universal Mind. Merak was released in 1988 on Wagner's private Music Suite label.

Beam me up, Proxyon . . .

Ready for some more Nether cosmic sounds? Maybe? Ok, give this one a try. Late breaking synthpop/cosmic disco from the Netherlands. The Van Eijk brothers punched out this set of space themed synthy dance tracks in 1989. If you're fond of Future World Orchestra, Peru, or Space Art you will probably feel right at home with Proxyon.

Deep in the Bamboo Cosmos

Peaceful Solutions was a collaboration between Kirby Shelstad and Richard Allen, two musicians from Nashville, Tennessee. This, their first lp, was released in 1984. Richard Allen made the instruments he is playing from bamboo. Various flutes including shakuhachi and transverse, whistles and bamboo saxophones were among the instruments used on this recording. Kirby Shelstad added synthesizers, vibraphone and various percussion instruments. The music is a kind of a folk/new age fusion and the result is unbelievable.

Strings Attached . . .

Strings? All over this record. Heinz Fröhling's guitars are very prominent in this late release which dropped in 1979. Gerd Führs is covering drums and synths per usual. 3 drummers on this release and yet another string player. Credits. A few of the tracks have a symphonic edge, but all the tracks have a cosmic shimmer; loads of synths. Well worth adding to your collection.

Disco Frog?

Paris France Transit is a Didier Marouani project from 1982. Kind of a cross-genre exercise with some tracks fitting the cosmic disco mold and others sounding like The Wall era Pink Floyd. Marouani (Ecama on this release) was in good company with a fairly large crew of talented musicians helping with the sound.

Constellations was the first lp released by Peru. This sleeve was the original and was designed by Peter Kommers of Peru. Once again we have a release with all electronic instrumentation; synthesizers and electronic drums.

the universe is velvet

By request: "Velvet Universe" was 2 young men from the area around Frankfurt/Germany - Thomas Kapke and RAIS (RAIner Sauer). They had a soft spot for epic electronic trips with guitars and astronauts voices. So do we. This record is their first from 1981. "Enigmas", their second from 1983, has also been released on Blubber Lips, a fantastic small label from Heidelberg/Germany. Check out more info on discogs. If you have further information please enlighten us. Cheers!
