Bouillabass versus Lauren

The Crew's 3rd release on Calig featuring Lauren Newton.
There's a lot more freedom in here and it's not my cup of tea.
But ( and this is a very big but) "Bouillabass" is a monster of a tune
and I like "Flying Bird" just as much (check out KEY's same titled LP
from 1977 on Calig including the wonderful "Birds Flying").
Please understand that I cannot say too much about the rest of the tracks
except from "great instrumentation" or "interesting structures" and a "voice".

Cheers,
Basso

Do they play that big black thing in the back?

The only album I've heard before from the Calig label is "Catch Up", volumes one and two. Always been curious about what else was recorded for Calig.
Thanks for the post (when it comes...)!

Hey Fritz,
good guess, but they're not allowed to play with it. It's Lauren Newton's mother!

tanti saluti
Basso

PS
what the hell is "SCHMECHT"?

Thanks!! It seems that Calig recorded a lot of free jazz, judging from the discography. But also maybe some more gems like "Catch Up"...?

Sorry, I meant 'schmeckt', 'gustoso'

basso you're the best!

@ mason
the 1st Catch Up (which is a bit more percussive than the weird but great 2nd LP) is probably the only "funky" Calig LP. But I recommend Tomasz Stanko's "Purple Sun" with a free accent on percussion that at some points is funky as hell. (like Archie Shepp's "Attica Blues")

Basso

Thank you. Didn't know about this at all and am a fan of Ms. Newton.

Hi Dr. Puck,

I'm glad to hear that you like Ms. Newton and I'd bet she's a wonderful person. Not a harmonical bastard like me!
cheers,
Basso

Is there any chance that someone comes up with the second Catch Up LP?
I had both, but lost the second when I loaned it to a schoolfriend and never got it back. (Wo bist du, JoJo?).

Hallo Manfred,

I'm sorry to say that I sold my copy of Catch Up Vol.2 to a collector from Munich almost ten years ago. I have and old rip somewhere and wil try to find it.....

best regards,
Basso

Anonymous said...
