I am listening to a lot of italian music at the moment and I think I'm not alone........ I deeply dig most of Lucio Battisti's music and cannot decide which one's my favourite. It's this LP here from 1974 or "La Batteria, Il Contrabbasso, Eccetera " from 1976, which includes the celebrated "Il Veliero". I chose to post this one here......

well, i'm italian so Lucio's groove filled over my ears at the time. Now after 30 years I can appreciate much more than 1974-76. I can rimember the music paper considered his first attempt to be an international awarded artist. After "Musica Latina", I recommend "La batteria, il contabbasso ecc..", "Una donna per amico", "Una giornata uggiosa" very much. They reflect the evolution of the music genre of the time, floating from the traditional "cantautore"'s songs, through instrumental porn-groove italian's b-moves' soundtrack and disco up to something not to much electric. Actually, in 1977 he moved in California predending himself to be a big star. It was an authentic flop and he didn't do anything there, but English and Spanish versions of Italians' LPs.

You're a joke stivio, Battisti was already a huge star in Italy and many other European markets. He didn't need to pretend!
To set the record straight, Stevie Wonder, who was a great fan of Battisti's, invited him to come to America. Wonder gave over his home to Battisti and it was his intention that Lucio try and establish himself in the American market. Unfortunately for Lucio he could not get rid of his thick Italian accent, so his appeal to the North American ear would be limited.
There were many other situations that Battisti was involved in at that time and he had to return to Italy prematurely, which ended his ventures in America.
I have no idea where you got your information from regarding Battisti, but you are completely wrong. How do I know, because I was there in Los Angeles with him the entire time.
