It's the new style

After having released 5 LPs as the "Dave Pike Set" on MPS certain changes in the group led to the "New Dave Pike Set". Eberhard Weber replaces Johann Rettenbacher on Bass and Marc Hellmann takes over Peter Baumeister's job on drums. On their first and last release they are accompagnied by a brazilian rhythm group the "Grupo Baiafro". Due to the pictures in the foldcover the Baiafros are having fun, while Dave and his Teutonic Jazzmen are looking dead serious (especially der olle Kriegel), but that's pictures only.
Listen to what they did....

cheers,
Baiasso

Looks really interesting....downloading. Is Grupo Baiafro Djalma Correa? He had an awesome album in Brazil by that name 'bout then.

Rightish!

Djalma Correa is leading the Grupo Baiafro. Where do I find that incredible album of him?

Got it!
Thanks Basso -interesting album, both the jazz and the brazilian percussion really reaching to each other rather than just accommodating each other. More than I expected!

I've been really grooving to brazilian jazz lately as well as the whole tropicalia movement including Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes and Gal Costa. I haven't listened to this as it's downloading right now. But, i will let you know what I think after I listen to it.

Cheers Basso!

Just like sc I'm a newcomer to this blog (through the link on Magic Purple Sunshine).

I know the "old" Dave Pike Set but I never heard this album in the "new" DPS configuration (more than 30 years later "new" is quite relative).

I like what I see, but a working link under the ... would be greatly appreciated.

I had a vinyl copy of this wonderful album, but it burned in a house fire in the late 1970s. I've been looking for it ever since. It's like having an old friend back. I appreciate so much that you took the time and energy to re-up. - Marco
