West Coast Experiment

Jazz? Maybe . . . Gnawa? Could be. Techno? Hmmm. Ethno-jazz-hop? Whatever it is, it works. This head scratcher was released in 2009 in Portland, Oregon. Very limited release, very scarce, very good. This duo outing with guests goes by Sesqui and Tahrei. The release is called Setenta Y Dos. We get lots of ethnic percussion, keyboards and jazzy horns and a bit of chanting on a couple tracks. This pair could produce a very entertaining live show.

thanks Zeroy. the music gives me a vibe of Jon Hassell's "Dressing for Pleasure". really nice avant fusion. any chance of knowing who the players are? all the best!

The players are Sesqui and Tah Rei for the most part. Sesqui plays drums and percussion. Tah Rei plays reeds (clarinets, saxophones and flutes), synthesizers, piano, rhodes, and strings including what he describes as an electro sintir on the first track. There are guests but only first names are given. The tracks were recorded at different times and are mostly live takes. The first track was recorded in a Lounge in Portland during a performance in 2006

Cool vibe. Just another example of a cool self released album that got overshadowed by the typical over hyped junk. Does any body know what happened to these guys? Is this mostly sampled based music or are these guys really playing some of the instruments?

Hello everybody:) This is DJ Sesqui. Happy to hear all the love about the music. We (Tah Rei,myself) still have some vinyl if anyone is interested. Thanks for taking the time to post the tracks. We're not attached to free downloading hence why we pressed the record. Spread the love. Here is my email for more info on album.
