Trans-Sentient Android Music

Here we have a soundtrack for an epic space fantasy. This is the story of Merak, a trans-sentient android (android with a soul) sent on a mission to the core of the universe to investigate an attack on the Universal Mind. Merak was released in 1988 on Wagner's private Music Suite label.

The Van Eijk brothers punched out this set of space themed synthy dance tracks in 1989. If you're fond of Future World Orchestra, Peru, or Space Art you will probably feel right at home with Proxyon.

I'm a true fan of Riccardo Zappa. This is from his first and features Tullio De Piscopo on drums and Tempera on synths. Discogs just told me the bassman also played on the Wild Magnolias records!! If you like it check out Riccardo's 80s LPs. Just as nice plus adding a bit of New Age and Balearica.
Joaquim Habana – I Love Berlin
mmmhhh... the guy's on fire. The track is coming from an obscure mid 80s soundtrack and it's so nice that everything changed over the years and nothing really changed....

haha! what devil made me do it? Playing this track might have been on step too deep into Pandora's box of obscure little ditties, but now it's here and it's an interesting one. Privately pressed on 7" only this insane ANTI ATOMKRAFT (Anti Nuclear Power) Song from the early 80s wonders me any time I hear it. Using Kraftwerk like vocal-hooks sung by children over a bassline strongly "inspired" by Key West's "Shake Together", the flipside of "Wanna Groove" - WTF

I found some copies of a "private" compilation called "Musik Szene Saar" ditributed by Bellaphon about 2 years ago and there's really a couple of great tunes on it. Various styles.... I heard it is now pretty hyped and of course damn expensive because of the ONE electronic track. Maybe this is one for thegrowingbin! Anyway Ambi & Arno have two tracks on the comp and "For You" is the one!

Dan Lacksman is a funny guy. You knew that before but anyway here's a bit of the proof.
If you take the time to listen all the way through the happy, silly, moogy popcorn tunes from A1 to the lovely B1 called Lullaby, B2 will hit you like a etheral meteorite and push you deep into your seat. Almost 13 minutes of Skylab might work like a drug. So please do me a favour and don't skip ; )

Software Sunrise

Here we have Brüning von Alten's Sunrise Orchestra with the "Malata Suite" LP. No year indicated on cover or label, but from the cat# I'm guessing this would have been released in 1984 or 1985 on Software. Software Music seems to be a guarantee for good music. I don't know a single bad record from this label (must admit I never heard this one). There's an ealier release buy these guys that I don't know yet but I hope to obtain it soon....
The album starts off with 10 minutes of some fine afro cuban jazz. Lots of percussions of course, beautiful piano and some real nice horns too. A2 is all about percussion. Voodoo! Side B kicks off with african fusion in "Latsemanja". I'm unsure about the chanting but hey, the guys obviously had fun.....you'll also find some relaxed moments on side 2. In one case (B2 "Lady U." with some great guitar shreds ; ) it's awesome - in fact my fave on this LP. The other one is kind of - ahhemm - okay (B3 "For Christina" - stewardess on the Love Boat, I guess). I have thought about leaving it out, but I have done that before and got rewarded with comments on the missing track only. Bloody completists!! For the closing track we return to the heart of africa with the "Kalabash Song". Everybody bring your calabash.....

Orbital Star

Not without a good portion of melancholy I am posting this wonderful & romantically rare album. Just recently friend of the bin Jamie tried to contact Li Garattoni after finding this LP and had to find out she had already passed away in 2004 - far too early. When he told me I had to think of one track from this LP - "Orbital Star". It might be a nice thing to think of Li Garattoni as a star orbiting around earth now. I hardly know anything about her (well, her sign was Taurus), but her lyrics and music touched me and when I listen to it she's still here......

Guitar and vibraphone. I'm listening to that combination a lot lately so I thought sharing some of it would be the thing to do. I'm a total sucker for Florian Poser's vibes so there was no need to playcheck the record when I found it in a shop some time ago. I do remember that at home it was the first one on the deck. Some blissed out 40 minutes later I "woke up" and listened to some more records, but none of those was half as nice as this here LP. But beware! The whole record is really relaxed and - of course - acoustic, no drums, no synths etc. Just some good old handmade music!

Star Dance

Mostly solo effort from the guitarist and main songwriter in Jane. Hess is playing guitar, bass, keys and drums. He has help on drums from Bernie Van Der Graaf and Rosebud on a few tracks, Ulli Heicher plays bass and percussion on Vegas, and Wolfgang Krantz provides strings on 3 tracks. Sternentanz was released on the Sky label in 1983. The sound is quite different from the progressive Kraut that Jane was making. More of a cosmic sheen on these jams as befits a record named Star Dance.

Deep in the Bamboo Cosmos

Peaceful Solutions was a collaboration between Kirby Shelstad and Richard Allen, two musicians from Nashville, Tennessee. This, their first lp, was released in 1984. Richard Allen made the instruments he is playing from bamboo. Various flutes including shakuhachi and transverse, whistles and bamboo saxophones were among the instruments used on this recording. Kirby Shelstad added synthesizers, vibraphone and various percussion instruments. The music is a kind of a folk/new age fusion and the result is unbelievable.

One of my hobbies is to cut, repair and strech odd tracks that make me dance, dance, dance. Andrew Lovefingers pressed some of these tracks on wax now and at least one of the tracks is really burning! This record should be findable in every GOOD recodstore around the globe ; )

Hi folks, tuesday october 19th at 10pm Central European Time (2 pm eastern, 11am western) my second show on Deepfrequency.com will be aired. It's a "Kraut" special this time. Starting with a very short track (=no track) by hobby musician group Thotes Schwein and their 1981 hit "Schwuler Frosch". Sounds like there's some good old german beerspirit involved too.
Next up is Alex Oriental Experience. A dealer who showed me that fantastic double album lately called the guy "Türken-Alex". The decision of having a turkish influenced track as the "first" track in a Kraut-Mix is a political one!
Alex is followed by Agitation Free, one of my favourite krautrock bands - ever! This one here called "First Communication" is the opener to their second LP.
"Öffnen Sie Mal Ihre Tasche" comes from a private press 80s LP called Subtanz.
It's followed by Moebius and Rentzihausen's opener of ther Ersatz LP.
Next up my favourite Richard Schneider Jr. tune "Regine's Dance".
"Wereld World" has been edited by Tako and you'll find it on one of the ESP Concentration Vol. 1 12"s.
Off to some more folky vibes we have Gadzho with "Manege" followed by the International Geräuschorchester.
Next is a collaboration of Kraan and Guru Guru called "Leopardenkästchen" unfortunately only to be found on a pretty rare Promo LP from a southern german radiostation. Hugest thanks to Paul at the Plattenrille for that one : )
Next we have Ceddo's mastermind Jochen Schlumpf. Must admit that I forgot the title and can't find the damn record in the chaos right now....
Off to another gifted guitarrero - Martin Müller - accompanied by Hakim Ludin and Michael Höfler with the title track of the truly wonderful Avenida Atlantica LP. Mos definitely one of my favourite finds of the last years.
Voodooish vibes from Frankfurt in "Sister Magic" by Iviron. A strange story about a guy who goes home with a fifteen year old girl and then finds out that girl's got balls ; )
The joy of cooking kraut closes with Janus' "Gravedigger" a perfect neverending kraut hymn from the UK.

Explosive Sounds . . .

Timer is the second lp from Gian Piero Reverberi, published in 1976. The music ranges from laid back atmospheric tracks with gorgeous female vocals, to full tilt epic renditions of classical compositions featuring synth heavy arrangements. It's all built for long lasting listening pleasure. (Are you sold yet?)
