What a mysterious light!?! I have passed that record more than a couple of times without listening. When I finally did I had to punch myself for judging a record for it' s cover - again! I missed some pretty awesome contemporary jazz ranging from "organic night tales" to ambient synthetics. In other words - it's a subtle bomb!!

Here's some lovely synthesized Samba by the group Radar from Estonia. They recorded 2 LPs which both are excellent Jazz Funk / Fusion records. This mighty fine track here is unfortunately only available on a estonian compilation from the early 80s (available over at my shop, of course ; )

Thank to Michael we are able to post more of the amazing Allegro Jazz Ensemble. This LP called "The Golden Mean" was recorded in 1984 and released in 1985 on the Melodia label. Once again very long and epic tracks: Fantasy in G Minor (10:23) and Composition on a theme of Cole Porter (10:34) on side A and Concert Suite in Three Movements (20:52) on side B. Enjoy!!

Now here you have some Russian Jazz. I'm far from being an expert in Jazz from Russia but I guess there must be tons out there. Only have some Allegro, Arsenal, Bumerang and Kutsenko, ... and here is my fave among them: The Allegro Jazz Ensemble's "In This World" from 1981. Powerful sound with partly funky rhythms and some solid synths.... and then there's that bass in the last tune......... Both sides are suites, but I dared to divide them into parts.

Czech jazz keyboardist Emil Viklický assembled a tightly knit crew for this outing. Bill Frisell on electric guitar and Kermit Driscoll on electric bass (Frisell and Driscoll have a long history together) and rounding off the rhythm section is drummer Vinton Johnson. The band nailed the jazz funk sound with this one. Viklický's synths and clavinet lines bounce well with Driscoll's bass workouts. We also get a preview of Frisell's future sound as a leader with this recording. Okno turned 30 this year. Still sounds fresh . . .

Discofil's Petr and Pavl Orm are collaborating with singers Kamelie and the outcome is some sweet and at times pretty cheesy disco and some more progressive tracks. It's not really easy to resist their charms.....

Sezon Dozhdei are a Russian space prog band originally formed in St. Petersburg in 1979. Multi-instrumentalist Maksim Pshenichnyi joined the band in 1984 and they recorded their first record in 1988. By the time this lp was recorded in 1992, Pshenichnyi and the drummer/percussionist, Alexei Petrov were the only full time members left. They were joined on this session by Alex Zubarev on guitar and flute, Maksim Kuznetsov on 'free guitar' and Rinaldo on vocals for the last track. The music moves between quiet ambient passages and intense sections with Floydian guitar solos and synthesizer flights. The songs are primarily instrumental with wordless vocals adding an extra dimension on a couple tracks.

This was one of my first Polish Jazz LPs and I was in love immediately. It was the bassline of Visions that made me spin this record again and again. I really dig this free approach to it. All in all a top notch album. Hope you guys like it.
Now here you have only 2 tunes by East German scat wonder Pascal von Wroblewsky. She recorded the "Swinging Pool" album at the age of 24. About ten years after her first apperarence on stage. (Didn't find that much info on her early work - btw she's still performing...) A year later she recorded an LP with her group Bajazzo (I'll post that later on). Earlier outings of Bajazzo are to be found on an early 80s Amiga comp, if I remember it right. Anyway, I've never ripped the whole LP, because I didn't really dig it all, so here's the 2 standout tracks of the Swinging Pool. The light and airy classic Maiden Voyage and the highly recommended scat earwormSwinging Pool. Let me know if you are interested in the rest of the LP and I'll rip it....

The name speaks for itself. Not for the stylistic orientation, but for the heavy use of brass! These guys are highly energetic and pretty fast. I'd bet my ass they visited the music conservatorium. When I listened to it first I got stuck at Klimat Dialogu, a sambaesque tune (the final track) and then worked my way back throught the album. Now I really enjoy every little bit and that's why I'd like to share it with you here.......
