1984

Computer & Jazz - How does that sound to your ears?

Yep, that's what I thought too....  Austrian master bassist Adelhard Roidinger did probably receive some equipment sponsoring from ROLAND and offff he went. SH 101, Juno 106, MSQ 700, CMU 800, MFB 512, ...... some lovely little helpers, huh? With Peter Gröning on Drums and Gerhard Laber adding percussion he recorded 7 little gems of Future Jazz - back in 1984. The sound of the vinyl is amazing, just as all records on the small THEIN label from Bremen sound amazing. There really have been some enthusiasts at work. THANK YOU GUYS!!!

Cheers, Basso

Private Trance Reissues

Adrian Marcator a.k.a. Marcator a.k.a. Trance released a couple of beautiful LPs in the late 70s and early 80s (see his 2nd above). One day when I visited him, he showed me his self produced & "private press" tapes that followed his LPs. Being a fan of ambient synthesizer music these tapes gained holy grail status in my book within minutes. We are now thinking about reissuing a selection of songs from these tapes on LP and I'd be really happy about your feedback.

You'll find the preselection of tracks here

Thanks for listening. Cheers, Basso

unidentified food

imagine you're in a restaurant somewhere at the other end of the world and you can't read the menu. You chose anything and when food is served you only have vague ideas what it might be.

Gelatenheid

Here's a lovely Jazz LP from the short lived "Dutch Treat" led by infamous Jan Huydts on keys and synths. Check out his recordings with the group "Third Eye" if you don't them already - amazing fusion stuff.... now Tranquility is the name of this album here and that's what it sounds like. A lesson in subtle finesse. Short and precise song structures instead of noodling it to death ... and then comes the drum solo....  but still you'll have your gentle wahwah guitars, funky flutes and bossa synths. Off to dreamland ....  Cheers, Basso

check out 678records who released never heard before tracks from Jan Huydts (together with Rob Franken and Henk Zomer) called KEYBOARD CIRCLE. they have soundclips and these sound amazing.....

Frozen Food

the joy of cooking frozen food (#9)

you probably know these days when there's no time to cook up something fresh and you just grab a pizza from the deep freeze and that's it for the night........ mmmh.... yeah that's it for this show too.

The damn job is VERY time consuming atm and so I filed through my harddisk looking for a suitable mix for the show. what I found suitable might not be everybody's cup of tea although the taste is pretty digestible. Guess it's from 98 or 99 and the sound is rather contemporary and mellow. no obscure flea market finds but names like Four Tet, Lemon Jelly and Karma.... even some beautiful IKEA music ; ) from the viennese lounge kaisers and probably some PORK releases too (was a huge Pork fan in the 90s... when I think of it...I still am!). Anyway I hope you'll enjoy some of these old tunes. Next time we'll have something real fresh again ... happy defrosting! Cheers, Basso

Baby Records rules

For E. & C.

Here's some high flyin' italian disco from 1979 ripped from a copy that was still sealed when I got it. Guessing from the instrumentation I expected Jazz Rock, but no no - it's Funk & Disco... Most of the tracks are really uptempo and I actually don't like uptempo disco, but the usual cheesy strings and crowds of backing girls are missing here - the sound is rather funky and I really like THAT. My #1 fave here is "Hey Lover" - a wonderful summer jam. Download instantly, put it on your ipod and get yourself some sunrays!

Or get your copy here. The prices for this gem have really gone down over the years. Cheers, Basso

pick up some Euro-Disko

Anybody into Euro-Disko? Here's some. "Life in the streets" -  It's cheesy and on top of that it reminds me of a lot of tracks that I don't wanna hear (including "I was made for loving you"), but still I like it and the damn hook is on accidental repeat in my head for days now... maybe it's the vocoded voices? Who knows... There's an easy to find 7" out there, but unfortunately the track is a lot shorter.
Now here's the long LP version.
Cheers, Basso
