Strings? All over this record. Heinz Fröhling's guitars are very prominent in this late release which dropped in 1979. Gerd Führs is covering drums and synths per usual. 3 drummers on this release and yet another string player. Credits. A few of the tracks have a symphonic edge, but all the tracks have a cosmic shimmer; loads of synths. Well worth adding to your collection.

Let the man himself tell you something about this rcord and digging in Japan:

"I found this record in Osaka which in my opinion is heaps better for digging than Tokyo - especially for Japanese records. There was one shop in Amerikamura which was run by a great guy called Norio who was totally digging the Electronic/Disco/Fusion/Cosmic sound. He had some great records in the store but it was mostly European or American and by this stage I totally had the bug for the Japanese stuff! I seem to remember I had to ask him if he had any Japanese records though because there were none or very few on display. After a bit of rummaging around the storage he passed me a handful of Japanese records. I found it strange that there were so few Japanese records on display but I quickly learned the reason for this was that the locals simply weren't so interested in the Japanese stuff. Aside from the fact that so few Japanese pressed records make there way to these shores, this might be the reason that rarely even get to hear about any of these gems. Norio seemed to be one of the few that really digs the Japanese stuff though and he really got a kick out of my enthusiasm for this stuff and it was great in turn to share some of my own Japanese discoveries.

It's pretty hard to find too much information about the group Imitation only that it was their debut LP and it was formed by former Sadistic Mika Band keybordist Yu Imai. The LP also features guest appearances from Dolette McDonald and Steve Scales who both performed with Talking Heads and Imitation certainly seem to have been inspired by that later Talking Heads sound. I guess it was the track 'Narcissa' which first had me flipping out in Norio's shop coming all over like some new DFA record. The blissed out 'Oriental Oriental' sealed the deal for me but definitely give the rest a chance too as there's some real growers on there!"

Disco Frog?

Paris France Transit is a Didier Marouani project from 1982. Kind of a cross-genre exercise with some tracks fitting the cosmic disco mold and others sounding like The Wall era Pink Floyd. Marouani (Ecama on this release) was in good company with a fairly large crew of talented musicians helping with the sound.

Star Gazing

Constellations was the first lp released by Peru. This sleeve was the original and was designed by Peter Kommers of Peru. Once again we have a release with all electronic instrumentation; synthesizers and electronic drums.

By request: "Velvet Universe" was 2 young men from the area around Frankfurt/Germany - Thomas Kapke and RAIS (RAIner Sauer). They had a soft spot for epic electronic trips with guitars and astronauts voices. So do we. This record is their first from 1981. "Enigmas", their second from 1983, has also been released on Blubber Lips, a fantastic small label from Heidelberg/Germany. Check out more info on discogs. More Rüdiger? Sure, why not. Morning of the World was the last of his records to be released on vinyl. All electronic as usual with lots of big drum sounds. Some tracks have a tribal feel as suggested by the sleeve artwork. I doubt Mr. Lorenz ever made a bad record.

Continents was the third lp recorded by Peru. Released in 1983 it produced two singles, Oriental in '85 and Africa in '86. Instrumentation is all electronic and features a long list of Roland synthesizers, voco-strings and rhythm composers, Linn drum computers, and Simmons drums.

One Man Band

Claude Perraudin returned to the studio in early 80s for another solo effort. There is no date listed on this lp but there was a single from it released in 1981 so I suspect that would be the date for Jogging. Once again Claude is playing guitars, keyboards, drums and percussion and providing heavily processed vocals on Speaking Birds. The tracks range from upbeat synthpopesque exercises to very laid back relaxed jams. Perraudin had a good sense of humor which you will notice on a couple tunes. This is the last of his records I've been able to locate. He is rumored to have recorded a record in 1989 called Janus under the name 'Greg Baker' and another in 1999 under his own name called Guitar Tenderness. He died in 2001.

Time Is Now

A longtime fave finally makes it on the blog.... Been wanting to share this great Elektronik LP (Berlin School influences...) for ages but somehow never made it. Time is now. This record has been released in 1979 on the small Blubber Lips label, that brought us some other fine electronic albums like Michael Bundt's "Electri City", the great Bernd Scholl LP and of course - Velvet Universe.
M. C. produced this album almost completely by himself and it is infact a pretty tight production. Deep as it gets....... Get a little more details here.

Cosmic Hero

Rouge production library cosmic gems composed by Chris Evans-Ironside and played by Astral Sounds. This one is from 1982 and features synthesizers (of course) and a splendid rhythm section. Lots of slapped bass strings. A few of the tracks are straight up cosmic disco and others are brooding soundtrack pieces (Unknown Aliens).

I won't keep you waiting but I can totally understand where Cesare is coming from. Some of my recent posts have one comment per 200 downloads. We know that's all you're here for. Maybe you have no idea how much time goes into ripping vinyl, splitting tracks, converting to mp3 format, tagging, photographing and editing sleevery, zipping, uploading the files and offering a bit of a description of the music. Thankless task? For the most part. Do you expect feedback or a thank you when you gift someone with a rarity? Of course not . . .

Cosmic Alchemy

First solo lp for Claude Perraudin released in 1977. Most of his credits have been as guitarist on other artists productions starting in 1967 with Serge Lama. He also produced several Library works for Patchwork starting in 1973. Perraudin played all instruments on Mutation 24 including guitars, bass, synthesizers, drums and percussion. If you have a close look at that hour glass on the sleeve, it appears the mutation is a sex change. Hmmm

Cosmique Minimalisme

Magazin Frivole was Blenner's second lp for the Sky label. This was a bit more accomplished than La Vogue and is therefore a more sought after record. The instrumentation is all electronic and the music is mostly instrumental with a few vocoded vocals on Métropole Agile.

There's so much beautiful music coming from Japan and hardly known as the records almost never pop up over here in Europe. So I'm vere very happy that Jamie Tiller offered to contribute some of his fantastic finds from his trips to Japan. Thanks a lot, Jamie!! Is there anything you'd like to add?

"Well, they say never judge a book by it's cover.. but I say this rule is generally best ignored when it comes to digging records. Japan was proving to be a little different though and the sheer number of lousy records with amazing sleeves was getting disheartening. The cover of this one stood out though; the photograph they used looks like a journey home from a rather quiet night out might might look when all of a sudden you're beginning to think someone might have spiked your drink earlier in the evening. I flipped the sleeve around and I was instantly getting excited by the track titles.. 'Absolute Space', Symptom Angle', 'Triaxial Development'. I hate to admit it but when I saw the year '1976' my heart sank a little.. but still I couldn't resist running straight to the player to check it out. I knew from the moment 'Contact Point' came through the headphones though that Ponta San wasn't going to let anything get between him and the future! Enjoy."

Lithuanian Space

The last lp from Argo. Žemė L was released in 1985 and is much more experimental than Discophonia, their first lp. Synthesizers, guitar and electronic percussion. The vocal intro on the first track and the vocal outro on the last track were by Mikas Matkevičius who was 73 at the time of the recordings.

Psychedelic Soundtrack

Cyrille Verdeaux and friends (Christian Boulé, Tim Blake, etc) formed this one-off group for the purpose of providing a soundtrack to an experimental psychedelic film by Pierre Clementi called Visa de Censure N° X. The music ranges from typical mid 70s psyche rock in the Cosmic Couriers vein to free psyche jazz experiments. This is the only lp in my collection with credits for Transgalactic Voice, Tortured and Backtracked Guitar, and Big Dry Beans (?).

Up, up to the sky

I still remember the day when I discovered this record that became my most admired library record for years. I was listening my way through a huge stack of libraries at my favourite record shop for hours. Among them a bunch of these UBM LPs that I never really saw before. I think there were about 10 of them and it was "hard work" as most of these were not at all my cup of tea. Skip, skip, skip. This one record here raised my interest because I read Manfred Schoof's name on the back as well as Rainer Brüninghaus whom I knew and admired for his keyboard work on some of Volker Kriegel's LPs. When the needle hit the groove the frustration (due to hours of only little listening pleasure) was gone immediately. Very nice! First track "Skyracer"- discoish jazz with a spatial feel... cool. "Neon" - yes, better than okay. And then the sweet "XY Patrol" totally hit me. I have a soft spot for that kind of drumming and my eyes really got wet from listening. Slightly ashamed I looked up to see if the shop-owner was aware of my intense feelings....phew! I think I heard it on repeat (1:45 is not enough) for a couple of times before I got into "Spaceflight". Man- This is it! Six and a half minutes of fantastic Spacedisco-jazz with emotional guitar solos and all that. I've never heard that kind of music on a library record before..... Months later at home I listened to the B-Side for the first time and really liked that too. No disco but beautiful melodies and a blissful spanish guitar. Enough words - have fun with this one! Cosmic Psychedelic

Franco Falsini created a masterpiece with this release. This was a trio effort but on some tracks he is playing solo, covering guitars and keyboards. There is not a bad track on this lp.

Claviers Synthétiseur

Roland Bocquet also known as the keyboard man in Catharsis, produced 4 solo lps between 1977 and 1983. This one is from '82 and was a production library work for RCA Media. He did a soundtrack the same year called "La Balance" and followed this lp with one called Robot Bleu in '83. He seems to have disappeared from the music scene after that one. Robot Rose is a showcase for synthesizer sounds. The lp begins with a disco track then progresses through synth pop and more soundtrack sounding pieces. The whole lp is a very enjoyable listen.

Zeitlose Eleganz

Please allow me to do some advertising! I really need to ...... because I was so damn blasted when hearing one the tracks of Tolouse Lowtrax aka Detlef Weinrich (of Kreidler fame) that I had to check out the whole thing on soundcloud. That lead to a whole working day of these tunes on repeat : ) What a sweet day. Lowtrax manages to combine the timeless beauty of minimal synth with afrodisco and some lovely kraut. The outcome is fantastic. And not only from the collector's point of view. (You'd have to buy a whole bunch of diffferent and probably all expensive early 80s LPs to get close to the quality of this release.) This is deep and danceable, pure and not pathetic and (enough of those stupid alliterations) a powerful contender for my album of the year. Go out and buy this as long as there are copies!

Electric Day was the first release from the band called You. It is also the only one which features a guitarist and drummer. Albin Meskes and Udo Hanten produced three more lps in the 80s as a duo. They are still performing as You at festivals. This is my favorite lp by the group; I like drums and guitar in the mix. Ulrich Weber played guitar on this lp and Lhan Gopal was the drummer. The main instrument on this and the lps to follow is the synthesizer.

Lofty Sounds

One multi-instrumentalist studio musician and two teachers of percussion who are also multi-instrumentalists = Ivory Playground. Their aim was to bring together the modern sounds of electronic keyboards with the ancient sounds of percussion instruments. This was accomplished with the collaboration of a dance ensemble from the Orff Institute in Salzburg. The music on this lp is relaxed and energizing and very satisfying.

This record has been dwelling up in the shelf for more than 10 years without futher notice. Back in the days when I tried to find as much Dauner as possible (he's a genius) I also found this goodie, but I was more into Dauner's freaky LPs like Oimels or Output and so I probably wasn't listening to this here LP more than once. Just a little too relaxed for my imago of Mr. Dauner at that time (also I have avoided Charlie Mariano LPs back then ;). Times have changed and so has taste. For heaven's sake the record was still up there and to heaven the ears went when the record finally got some play and a patient listener. Don't know if this will appeal to the "masses" of downloaders, but if you can take some spiritual and calm music with indian influences, you're definitely not going wrong with this one.
