Vangelis - The Tegos Tapes


Microneurosurgery with video tapes - Spinal Space-Occupying Lesions, by dr. Stergios Tegos
(Medical Publications, Konstandaras, Athens 1998)

This publication by dr. Tegos is divided into three sections, the first giving a general review of the commonest pathology of the spinal cord, the second detailed descriptions of 35 representative patients, and the third contains video recordings of the operations of these patients. The tapes contain no less than 12 hours of video, and as dr. Tegos puts it; "To provide a more pleasant, relaxing and less monotonous experience even for established neurosurgeons, Vangelis Papathanasiou has composed music for each of the operations separately." Be sure to check out the enclosed pages for a description of Vangelis' technique of "immediateness" for composing this massive amount of tunage. Our providing friend, who wants to remain anonymous, spent the christmas chopping up the 12 hours of tape for us to enjoy. Thank you for the effort!     Well, damn. I think this may keep my ears busy for a few weeks. Anonymous seems like a dedicated individual. Have to add my thanks for time spent on this project. I'm only a couple cases in and thoroughly enjoying, so far. Have to admit the video was a little hard to take, but the music is a treat. Very nice post, indeed.

    Please elaborate:
    Is there narration on any of these?
    (You said 12 were music to video,but there are 35 downloads.)

    2/ If I were to try only one, is there a standout (instrumental) one?
    Maybe one thats more lively. (Im feeling this music might be boring/clinical, Raymond Scott lullaby-type.)

    No idea how the Dr can say this music is to provide a more pleasant and relaxing experience, that video is terrifying, it looks more like some nightmare Deckard would have in Blade Runner questioning whether he is an android or human. Brilliant stuff though! Thanks again.

    Hard to belief this is actually by Vangelis. This sort of Dark Ambient sounds more than Lustomord to these ears. It's amazing if totally unsettling.
